Carroll County Maryland Scholars Speakers Bureau Training Scheduled

Westminster, MD – September 02, 2014 – The Maryland Business Roundtable for Education
(MBRT) is recruiting Carroll County volunteer speakers to join with 3,000 other committed
Marylanders who will talk to 8th and 9th grade students about where they want to go in life and how to get there. “Local workforce development begins with inspiring our youth to be the best scholars they can be. This program helps to accomplish just that. It’s been my pleasure to participate and I I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity” stated Jon Weetman, Carroll County Economic Development Administrator of Operations and Small Business Development.

Carroll County needs approximately 75 volunteers to reach all of the area students with an encouraging message. Volunteer speakers are asked to make four 45-minute classroom presentations in area schools during the school year. To prepare for the talks, speakers attend a three hour training session. Carroll’s speaker training date is Sept. 18th from 2-5 p.m. in the
Carroll County Department of Economic Development office at 225 N. Center Street, Suite 101 in Westminster. Speakers then select the schools, dates and times that are convenient to them.

Another unique MBRT program is the Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Specialist in the Classroom that pairs STEM professionals with classroom teaching opportunities alongside the teachers. Students learn valuable real-world applications of course content through this program so individuals with STEM positions are encouraged to volunteer.
