Volunteer With CTIC!
Help People Navigate Technology with Confidence
Technology opens doors—to jobs, healthcare, connection, and opportunity. But for many people in our community, those doors feel locked.
That’s where you come in.
We are seeking volunteers to work with us as digital navigators to lead technology workshops and individual trainings.
What You'll Do
As a Digital Navigator volunteer with CTIC, you will tutor community members who need help building their digital skills. This isn’t about being a tech expert—it’s about being patient, curious, and willing to figure things out together.
You might help someone:
- Connect a device to Wi-Fi for the first time
- Set up an email account to apply for jobs online
- Adjust privacy or accessibility settings on a smartphone
- Identify artificial intelligence in online tools and content
What We're Looking For
You don’t need to be a tech wizard. You need to be someone who:
- Has patience and empathy for people learning something new
- Can break down complex ideas into plain language
- Is comfortable modeling how to find answers
- Enjoys problem-solving and troubleshooting
The Real Work
Here’s what this actually looks like: You’ll sit with someone who might be frustrated, anxious, or embarrassed about not knowing how to use their technology. Your job is to meet them where they are, ask questions to understand what they really need, and walk them through solutions.
Sometimes the presenting problem isn’t the real problem. Someone asks how to install Word, but what they actually need is help building a resume. You’ll learn to dig deeper, make individualized plans, and teach skills that transfer across different tools and situations.
You’ll model “figuring it out”—narrating your troubleshooting process out loud, trying different approaches, admitting when you don’t know something, and demonstrating how you would go about finding answers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need technical certifications or experience? No. You need patience, curiosity, and a willingness to learn alongside your students.
What if someone asks me something I don’t know? Perfect opportunity to model resourcefulness. Look for useful symbols that may indicate settings or support, go to trusted sources together, ask another navigator, or refer them to someone with more experience in that area. Sometimes, we have to admit that it’s out of our control – and that’s life using technology too!
How much time do I need to commit? That’s up to you. Some volunteers help a couple hours a month, others come weekly. We’ll work with your schedule.
What if I mess something up? We won’t let you break anything we can’t fix. Part of being a Digital Navigator is modeling that mistakes are part of learning. Your role is to guide, not to be perfect.
